Federal court rules Wisconsin abortion law unconstitutional

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A federal appeals court docket panel says a Wisconsin legislation requiring abortion suppliers to get medical center admitting privileges is unconstitutional.

A a few-choose panel of the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued the decision Monday, upholding a federal judge in Madison who struck down the legislation in March.

Planned Parenthood and Affiliated Health care Services challenged the law in 2013, arguing it would drive AMS’ Milwaukee clinic to shut because its medical professionals could not get admitting privileges. The lawsuit said that amounted to an unconstitutional restriction on abortion.

State lawyers contend the legislation would guarantee continuity of care for girls hospitalized with abortion complications.

During oral arguments in Oct, the 7th Circuit judges hearing the circumstance peppered point out lawyers with queries. A single choose stated there was no rational foundation for the regulation.
