NEW DELHI: Congress these days distanced alone from previous Finance Minister P Chidambaram’s assertion that the banning of Salman Rushdie’s controversial novel ‘The Satanic Verses’ by the Rajiv Gandhi govt was incorrect.
Describing Chidambaram’ remark as his personal see, senior Congress leader Kamal Nath right now stated, “No question of a one person puncturing party’s stand. Congress’ stand is clear. These days what the place is confronted with is an assault on harmony,” he explained.
“That is Chidambaram’s own view,” the former Parliamentary Affairs Minister explained whilst replying to a query. Chidambaram experienced on Saturday stated the selection of the Rajiv Gandhi government to ban Rushdie’s e-book ‘The Satanic Verses’ was incorrect.
“I have no hesitation in saying that the ban on Salman Rushdie’s ebook was mistaken,” Chidambaram experienced explained at the Moments LitFest here.
