1000’s of design personnel have rallied outdoors the Melbourne Magistrates Court docket ahead of an appearance by two union officials billed with blackmail.
Police have been out in force like on horseback, outdoors the court as hundreds of union customers gathered to present their help for CFMEU point out secretary John Setka and his deputy Shaun Reardon who had been each billed with blackmail on the weekend.
Union users marched outside the court docket waving flags and shouting: “Johnny Setka, listed here to stay! Shaun Reardon, listed here to continue to be!”
Lonsdale Street was shut at King Avenue and buses and other targeted traffic was diverted.
Setka tackled the crowd outside court and thanked folks for their support.
He also criticised police for the way in which he was arrested on the weekend in entrance of his family.
Setka and Reardon have been flanked by other union leaders like national secretary Dave Noonan and ACTU president Ged Kearney.
The charges are linked to a lengthy-managing dispute with concrete organization Boral.
The men have been arrested and billed by a taskforce set up to look into matters arising from the royal commission into trade union corruption.
Setka mentioned the royal fee had attacked the building union for two years.
“1 of the causes they hate us is that we are as well profitable,” he advised crowds.
