A Russian royal who died on your own in the Best Stop town of Katherine has been buried along with members of the Northern Territory’s richest household, the Paspaleys.

Leonid Gurevich Kulikovsky was the great grandson of Tsar Alexander III, who reigned in Russia in the 1800s.

Mr Kulikovsky emigrated to Australia in 1967 to explore “greener pastures” and live “incognito”.

He died a pauper in September, under a tree in Katherine, accompanied only by his devoted canine.

Following his death the Paspaleys, themselves immigrants from Greece who fled Entire world War I for Australia and created their fortune in pearling, approached the Russian representative in the Northern Territory, Simon Andropov.

They presented to bury Mr Kulikovsky in their personal family burial ground.

Mr Andropov stated it was fitting that Mr Kulikovsky was buried in a Greek cemetery.

“It is good that he is absent to a Greek cemetery, due to the fact his grandfather escaped from Russia by means of the Islands of Greece and the Greeks confirmed them all the courtesy and hospitality, and it is just good that his grandson is now buried in a Greek plot in Darwin,” Mr Andropov said.

Mr Andropov mentioned customers of the royal family members would like to pay a visit to his grave.

“The grand duchess has expressed a wish to come and see Darwin,” Mr Andropov mentioned.

“She expressed that want by means of father Michael, who did [Mr Kulikovsky’s] support at the Serbian Church.

She’s very grand and she’s got very an entourage, so ideally she may possibly occur out.

“His grave may become a tourist location.”

Mr Kulikovsky finished his education and learning in Denmark prior to moving to Australia.

Mr Andropov verified the royal had labored in Sydney, living “incognito, no-one understood of his royal heritage”, ahead of travelling about Australia on retirement.

Mr Kulikovsky lived in a caravan park in Katherine and was located lifeless, having endured a heart attack, Mr Andropov stated.

Police confirmed he died on September 27.
