Former federal treasurer Joe Hockey has been appointed Australia’s next ambassador to the United States.
Foreign Minister Julie Bishop formally announced the former treasurer would take over the Washington post from Kim Beazley this morning.
Mr Hockey, 50, announced his retirement from politics after he being dumped as treasurer by Malcolm Turnbull in September.
The Federal Opposition has raised doubts about the ongoing working relationship between Mr Turnbull and Mr Hockey.
