PIL Seeking to Close Liquor Shops in Flood-hit Areas Dismissed

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court docket today dismissed a PIL looking for a route to the authorities to shut down liquor retailers in flood-hit places of Tamil Nadu.   

The initial bench comprising Main Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana dismissed the PIL by Kanimozhi, an advocate, stating that it was a policy make a difference of the federal government and courts cannot interfere in it.          

Kanimozhi contended that Chennai, Tiruvallur and Cuddalore districts were seriously afflicted in the recent floods and men and women in these regions have misplaced virtually every little thing and finding it hard to get food and shelter. Working the govt-owned Tamil Nadu Condition Advertising Corporation retailers, which sells alcoholic drinks in these locations, would even more ruin their livelihood, she submitted.     

Dismissing the PIL, the judges explained it was for the Govt to consider a decision on the matter.
